In 1999 two rollers (roller skaters), Sean Middleton and Mark Leonard met at Crystal Skate (Skate Palace) roller skating rink. At the time, both Sean and Mark were working as rink guards at separate skating rinks. Sean worked at Clinton (Wheel A While) and Mark at Skate Palace. Sean regularly took his daughters to Skate Palace on Friday's for Family Night where he and Mark would skate together working on various skating tricks. Mark also went to Clinton and worked out with Sean, putting the finishing touches on their various steps and moves. This started the beginning of their friendship. Mark made a suggestion to Sean about creating a skate club together and Sean told Mark to go home and think of a name. The name came to Mark one night while cleaning his wheels. He thought, 62MM! It's the size of the wheels that many rollers use, and the wheel is the foundation of the roller skate. He thought the name was unique and represented roller skating to not only he and Sean, but to ska ters everywhere. He mentioned the name to Sean, and Sean added to the slogan, "That's How We Roll".
Mark, Sean and other skating buddies skated for years representing and shouting out 6222222222!!!!! It was a fun way to represent their clique. In 2001, Mark wanted to come out as a full-fledged roller skating group, but before Sean would agree, he wanted Mark to decide on the purpose and the vision of the group. He felt that without a purpose and a vision, there was no need to create a group. As other skating groups emerged, Mark became more eager to form 62MM. He saw how other groups wore their uniforms to represent themselves and wanted to do the same for 62MM. He collaborated with Sean and decided on the purpose and vision of the group. In 2004 62MM emerged as a full fledge roller skating organization.
62MM will participate with other roller skating organizations to promote the quad skating lifestyle. Quad roller skating is making a come back in our area and we want to help promote the sport by supporting our local and national skating family, as well as anyone with the interest in learning how to skate. 62MM!!!!!
